An estimated 162 2018 F-53 stripped truck chassis with 22.5-inch wheels and a 22,000-26,000 Lb gross vehicle weight rating were recalled because the front-wheel studs were improperly heat treated, this can cause it to break and an accident may occur.
To fix this issue, Ford is taking action on notifying the affected upfitters and dealers by mail and will instruct them to inspect, remove and replace the suspect front-wheel hub studs as required in accordance with the dealer bulletin technical instructions.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition and none of them have been reported.
All affected units were built at the Detroit Chassis Plant between June 13 and 22 of 2018.
Ford’s recall reference number is 18S21.
