Effective on October 8, North Carolina city of Rocky Mount truck drivers will no longer be allowed to park their rig at home.
City council determined that commercial vehicles or trailers longer than 25 ft or that weigh more than 10,000 pounds, which includes class 3-8 trucks, are banned on parking in residential areas.
Chief communications and marketing officer of N.C city, Tameka Kenan-Norman, stated that there was a rising number of complaints related to trucks or commercial vehicles parked in residential areas. She also added that the city has a policy that restricts large commercial vehicles parking on less than 300 Ft from residential areas, this Policy has been active since 1970.
Some few exceptions to this ordinance include trucks that are parked in a non-residential property that is in a residential area, vehicles that are providing an emergency service or related to utilities, residential construction or maintenance related trucks with building permits, as long as these vehicles don’t remain parked for more than 48 hours in a 30-day period.
A 90-day stay period was passed along with this new ordinance, which provides truckers with 90 days to seek for a new parking spot for their rigs. After October the 8th, if caught parking in residential areas, CDL holders will be fined $100 for the first citation, $250 for the second occurrence and $500 for any further incidence.
The city stated that they will work with truckers prior to the deadline to find a solution for any parking issues and needs.
